We are in the process of moving, in case you didn't see! I am so excited about the tweaks that we have planned for our little beach bungalow to make it our own. I'll be posting lot's of updates - how to diy and improve your rental on a budget.
First thing is painting the kitchen this weekend.... We are heading out to purchase the paint this morning but after browsing at Sherwin Williams, Home Depot + Lowes, I've decided to go with an ultra white to keep things light and airy. There are SO many whites to choose from but I prefer the ultra and pure white's that only have a few drops of grey over the cream or pink tones that have a drop of orange or yellow. I've always preferred a white that reads cool / blue, especially with the yellow southern California sun that will be blasting in our many windows (heart eyes).

After we finish painting the whole house we will be hanging some open shelving above the stove/ oven. I'll post before pictures and the process, but in the mean time I wanted to post some major shelf-spo here for open kitchen shelving. I do love the look of some nice brackets (these or these please), but I am leaning towards floating to keep things clean and simple.

We also will be swapping out many things in this place to make it more our own. The main reason we were able to snap up a roomy bungalow in Santa Monica is because it is filled to the brim with "contractors special" finishes (awful faux granite linoleum anyone?) SO out will come the fixtures and I'll be laying some flooring that can easily be removed when it comes time to move into our next house (hopefully not for another 4-5 years); I'm looking at you, removable vinyl floor tiles.

So while we do have closed cabinetry that can hide the sippy cups and my random mug collection, I am going to streamline what we place on the open shelves. H&M has some beautiful stoneware right now that I am so buying while I save up for my dream wear...
Anyway, stay tuned and follow along on Pinterest here for more inspiration. Before pics coming up soon!

Well it's official, we are finally moving into a 2 bedroom house and you heard it here first!
The house is a cute little bungalow with, did I say, 2 BEDROOMS. I am pretty excited about this, because we have been sharing a bedroom with our once baby now toddler and that has been a challenge.
The house is a bit of a shell, really needs updating and some love. Because we are just renting and do not own, I am going to do as much "updating" within a budget as possible, all while trying to stick to things that we can take with us when it comes time to move again down the road. But I have to say, the biggest thing I am excited about with this home is the fact that I can see us staying here for 5 years+. This is a long term move that I am so ready for. We have lead a pretty transient lifestyle since we started college... michigan, nyc, orange county, chicago, los angeles all in the span of 8 years. It's time to slow down. SO EXCITED.
SO I am going to be pinning and posting some of the updates I plan to do to our place. The kitchen will be the biggest overhaul because honestly I will sink a little money into something that we use and love everyday. But I'm starting with the bathroom because it is an all white space that really just needs brighter lighting as the biggest update. We may replace the faucet and tub fixtures as well because they looked pretty janky... but I am still trying to decide where to go there. Black? Brass?
But here are the things in my cart right now that i am getting ready to slowly pull the trigger on.
Stay tuned for more room updates and before and after photos. You can follow along on pinterest here. (Bathroom Board here) We are moving in over the course of the next month (hello paying double rent, ouch). SO it's a slow transition that we are all ready for.
